“Prayer is individual in its application and benefits…blesses man in every event in life, provides help in every emergency, and gives comfort in every trouble… it is a helper, comforter, ang guide.” EMBounds
I received a text earlier this morning (5am) from a dear brother in the Lord concerning his wife. He copied me on a letter she wrote to him and their children. She has cancer. This is the second brother that has told me this in the last three weeks; the third in the last six weeks. How do you respond to that?
I did not want to respond with chritianese. Scripture does give us much with which to comfort in these times, it is appropriate and right. But this is a time for love to shine forth from our hearts. This is a time for the altar, to bring our prayers there. The words from the altar will bring help, comfort and be a guide for this journey.
I offered my love to my brother as I immediately wrote back. Then I began to pray, remembering my other brothers and their wives in my appeal to the Lord. My friend replied in such a way that I know the Lord was using to confirm our love for each other; indeed His love for all of them, as a guide.
My friend simply replied, “Samuel, I know you will be praying.” I had just prayed that verse, a verse we had been bonded together with over twenty-five years ago. I knew we were instantly bonded again, joined in thought and prayer by the Lord who sees all things.
“As for me, far be it form me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you.” 1 Samuel 12:23
…just a thought
